Cap and trade, freedom, and the collapse of our nation.

America is in danger of collapse and I don’t say this lightly.

I have believed in the exceptionalism of America for as long as I could understand what that meant. Five years ago, I would have told you that our economy will recover, that times will get better, and that freedom will prevail, but now I am doubting that optimism.

Freedom is like a tender flower. It is beautiful beyond description. Freedom is something that is wonderful, life changing, but all together fragile. Freedom trampled upon will wither quickly. Just like the flower, trampled freedom will take a lot more work to revive it than it does to destroy.

Our congress has forsaken their sacred duties. They have rejected the idea that they are for the people, by the people, and of the people. This is not something that is easily remedied.

At this point, we have the choice between two major candidates (John McCain and Barack Obama) who’s political ideals line up closer to that of a socialist/nationalist agenda than to the principles that kept us free for so many years.

Last year, we stood on the edge of a great divide. As our nations toes inched closer to a cliff that would spell disaster if we should we ever pass the tipping point, and fall face first to peril, our leaders laughed, played their fiddles, and said that all is well. Instead of heeding the warning signs, our leaders offered populist fixes. They guaranteed a short term happiness, but willingly neglected our future. The US congress has sold our futures for the price of an election.

The McCain-Feingold bill solidified the place of career politicians while making it very difficult for your average citizen to represent his neighbors. The Lieberman-Warner act will chase away our jobs, create faux energy shortages, and artificially inflate prices on necessities such as gasoline, clothing, and food.

Lieberman-Warner will institute a new tax called the “cap and trade” tax. This will give quotas for every company. If their level of Carbon Dioxide (remember that CO2 is the harmless stuff that plants use) increases beyond a certain level, they will be punished. This will often involve a forced payment to their competition.

You have to remember that Carbon Dioxide is not a gas that is poisonous. It is a safe gas that makes up a very small proportion of our atmosphere. Yet, we are willing to over-regulate our workplaces to the point that they will be forced to move to another nation? This is foolishness at it’s worst!

There has seldom been a tax that has ever been repealed. We normally see “reductions” but we never see a complete repeal. If this bill gets through, and it will, it could be the large straw that breaks the camel’s back. Our nation cannot handle any more stress on our economy, our personal lives, and our freedoms.

Right now, we stand with our toes over the cliff of no return, and I have no faith in our politicians to make the right decision. Get your parachutes out, this could be a bumpy ride.

Now,

Email from the Bob Barr Campaign

Subject: Memo: Political Assessment

MEMORANDUM

FROM: Russ Verney
Campaign Manager, Bob Barr ‘08
TO:  Friends and Associates
RE: Political Assessment
DATE: May 19, 2008

These days, politics seems to revolve around polling and predictions. I’m not convinced it’s the best use of anyone’s time — especially for someone like me who’s spent his whole life in full-time campaign activities — but consider this outline :

>early October: 7% in national surveys
>Mid October: wins televised Presidential debate
>late October: 12% in national surveys
>election day: captures 19% of national vote

That’s what happened in a previous election I was involved with: Ross Perot in 1992. That could have been the case with Ron Paul if he had opted to run on a third party ticket.

I believe former Congressman Bob Barr has the same potential. Maybe better. Don’t be mislead, however: I am no cheerleader by nature. But I do agree with our Senior Policy Advisor, Doug Bandow, in an e-mail I received from him yesterday:

“I’ve just read the early polling data and your election game plan — phenomenal. Congressman Barr is poised to have a huge impact on the public policy debates and political history. His will be no ordinary presidential campaign.”

That’s not going to happen without your involvement, but at this point I’m asking you to just to think about participating and to mull over the following … November 4th is light years away. In terms of laying the foundation for a dynamic and influential campaign, the pieces for Barr 2008 are already in place. Consider …

America is swamped in Libertarian information:

>Congressman Ron Paul’s new book is the number one best-seller in the nation according to the New York Times

>Neal Boortz has 4,000,000 radio listeners daily

>On TV, John Stossel broadcasts such opinions as: “I am a libertarian in that I believe in limited government and as much individual freedom as possible.”

>Finally, you may not have heard this from many media pundits, but nearly 130,000 people — 16% of the Republican primary turnout in Pennsylvania — got out of their easy chairs and voted for Ron Paul and against John McCain … that was after John McCain had won the nomination.

Politically and ideologically, Bob Barr is plowing fertile ground.

It will take an articulate candidate and a powerful message to build the meaning of the Libertarian messages voters are receiving. We have both in the Barr 2008 campaign.

That’s why we need your participation: your investment of time, talent, and financial resources is vital as the campaign builds, from the ground floor, the alternative to politics-as-usual.

Will you take a moment to go to our website and contribute $25, $50, $100 or even $500 today?

https://www.bobbarr2008.com/donate/?c=Facebook

I’d also like you to consider a pledge of support so we may plot out our post-convention strategy. Consider making a $25 contribution today — and a further investment of $25 or $50 on June 1st. Your gift of $50 or even $100 right away, with a pledge of another $25, $50 or perhaps $250 on June 1st, will allow us to set some ambitious campaign plans in place now.

https://www.bobbarr2008.com/donate/?c=Facebook

If you cannot donate today or tomorrow, please do make a pledge payable on June 1st. Our budget process is the first responsibility I have to deal with.

With just a few days before what I believe will be great news coming out of the Libertarian Party convention, please be sure to act on this memo today so we can further our momentum.

While you are at the website, look around (there are lots more news and information posted) and take time to volunteer. I’d like to count on your support of just one hour a week in June, two hours a week in July, three in August.

Will you help?

Please let me hear from you right away. Your investment in this campaign of $50, $25, $500, or $100 will really be of help right now. We will put the contributions into good use immediately, and if you can volunteer just an hour a week I assure you will be productively busy. Two more things …

Bob Schoen, in his book cited above, also stated, “I have a clear and unambiguous sense that the most important person in the 1996 election was Ross Perot, who in 1995 shaped and prefaced the outcome of the election the next year.” That’s regrdless of Perot earning some 9% of the vote in comparison to 19% in 1992.

There are more than 430 elected Libertarian Party officials in the U.S. How many more do you think a successful Bob Barr campaign will hep elect? I am convinced Bob Barr can match or beat the Perot votes of ‘92 and ‘96. Please be generous with a contribution, a pledge of further support, and your time.

Our fitting legacy of success — yours and Bob’s — would be the impact of a vibrant, effective Libertarian Party. You can make that happen, my friend.

Could Bob Barr be the last best hope of conservatism?

McCain’s latest comments about implementing tariffs against China and other countries for their “carbon footprint” should be a warning flag for the nation’s true conservatives.

Liberal Democrats and Republicans have participated in live-for-the-moment economic policies that rival the “money handout” campaigns by Juan and Eva Peron Those policies eventually crippled the Argentinian economy. McCain’s economic and foreign policies are just as foolish, and will destroy our hurting economy.

Did you know that the Nazi party was the “less” liberal of the parties in Germany in pre world war II? They were very much a liberal party, just not as much as the communists. The problem is that the conservatives in Germany put Hitler into office because he was less liberal than the other guys.

Before you invoke Godwin’s Law, let me explain. McCain represents the less liberal of the choices for president. While he might not be “Nazi” material, he certainly represents the unraveling and the destruction of almost everything conservatives have worked on for the past fifteen years.

Conservatives are in a pickle right now. While McCain is a bad candidate, Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton are far worse.

And this is where Bob Barr comes in. Conservatives have generally sacrificed some principles for the greater good of conservatism. However, a vote for McCain may very well put a stake though the heart of the conservative movement. Former Republican Congressman Bob Barr will be taking on the other big contenders while flying the Libertarian Party flag.

Bob Barr is really the last conservative who has a chance of energizing the conservative base.

The only way conservatives win this election is by losing the presidency. Here is how: If Bob Barr is effective in energizing the conservative base, he will send many voters to the polls that would normally stay home. This will help conservative Republican candidates win seats in the senate and house and will further help state and local elections turn to the conservative favor.

However, Republicans will likely split their vote and lose the presidential election. This is not as bad as it seems. Four years of a conservative congress with a liberal president is much better than eight years of a sort-of conservative president and a liberal congress.

Those running for state and local offices should go out of their way to support Bob Barr, it will energize the base, and will send a ripple effect through Republican party. With or without them, the conservatives will thrive.

Note to Republican Politicians, Compromise does not Make You Better

I just saw a commercial where Nancy Pelosi and Newt Gingrich sit on a couch together and advocate “Climate Change” legislation.

The funny thing is that we have not had a warming period for almost a decade. In fact most long term climate studies that propose a “Global Warming” scenario end in the 1990’s, which coincidently coincides with the peak in average temperatures.

So even though Global Warming has been debunked to the point that it’s advocates have been forced to rename it “Climate Change” (which could mean anything), politicians still see it as the issue of the day. People like Newt Gingrich, whom most conservatives admire, seem to check their brains at the door and jump on board the almost defunct bandwagon.

It seems that so many Republican politicians get on board with something after the issue is dying. We beat up on an issue that is a blatant lie, but then these appeasers give in and accept the lies, even though they know that they are false.

To all Republican Politicians, you do a major disservice to us all when you sell out the truth to gain favor with our enemies. If you were our generals, we would lose every war after winning every battle.

Why do Liberals like Obama?

Obama SmokingWhy do people follow Obama? Is it because of his “role model” status?

A man who openly admits he was a drug user, admires a racist pastor’s, and can’t get over his cigarette addiction does not sound like a role model to me.

This is exactly the man that Democrats want running the country. Barack Obama is not someone that you should admire. I could go on and on with his character flaws, but you probably know what they are.

From the  liberal  perspective, a Barack Obama presidency could be disastrous for their invasive anti freedom to smoke agenda. They could very likely see a reversal on the entire project. Once people think they want to be cool like the president and pick up the dirty habit, who knows what will happen.

Think of all the kids who will see this man smoking. Could they say, “what’s good for the president is good for me.”?

Just for the record, I hate the smell of smoke, and think it is a disgusting habit. I hope that my kids never smoke, and I really do fear that Barack Obama would make a bad role model. However, I believe that the government should not be interfering with private businesses and their internal rules. Smoking bans are not necessary and infringe on the property rights of individuals.

When did congress replace the courts?

This week, two major “trials” took place in the Democrat controlled United States congress.

First of all, Oil company executives were put on trial. One after the other, congressmen and women took cheap shots at the oil companies. They claimed the oil companies unjustly gained profits and are not helping their competitors enough.

Another “trial” will take place on Thursday, when the airline executives will be grilled on safety measures.

I am really not sure how many more people congress can attack this year. If your industry has not been subpoenaed by congress, I am sure it will be on the docket. If you make a profit outside of government, don’t advertise it, you may be next on the chopping block!

Lieberman-Warner Environmental Act Could Kill Economy

The Hill is reporting that the Lieberman-Warner act could cost far more than Democrats are willing to let on.

In fact, even after most of the up front expenses are taken care of, the EPA predicts that the bill would cost the U.S. economy $983,000,000,000 in a singe year (estimate for 2030).

All this for a contrived global warming sham. What this does, it is permanently cripples the U.S. economy and puts our hometown companies at a disadvantage to foreign competition. Where is the outrage from the unions?

Disgraced Kathy Tingelstad Decides Not to Run Again

One of the “Republican Six” defectors decided to back down in their opposition to Republican voters. Kathy Tingelstad of Andover is calling it quits and will not seek another term.

The Admiral, at Lake Minnetonka Liberty, had the following to say about Tingelstad’s decision to end her campaign.

Stripped of her leadership role, excoriated at her endorsing convention and ostracized within her caucus, Rep. Kathy Tingelstad, R-Andover, signaled an end to a 12-year legislative career on Monday, declaring that she would not seek reelection.

Since Tinglestad forgot where she came from, and who worked long hours to put her in office, it is better that she leave the public sector. Now we just need to get rid of the other Republican traitor’s including:

Two Choices: Obama is a Radical, or He is a Liar

Up until recently, race has been all but a dead issue in America. Most Americans do not even consider making race a factor when hiring someone, and it is safe to assume that most Americans do not feel that race plays a significant role in their choosing of friends and aquaintences.

However, radicals like Jeremiah Wright (Barack Obama’s Pastor) have brought racism to the spotlight again. Only this time, racism comes from blacks to whites. Some call this “reverse racism” but in reality, racism is just racism, no matter who it happens to.

Today, Barack Obama gave a speech that brought race to the forefront of the national discussion. At one point, Obama said

“Did I know him to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely - just as I’m sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.”

Here in lies the question: Why would any person in their right mind stay at a church in which they had so much disagreement with their pastor? Furthermore, why did Barack Obama choose to put Jeremiah Wright in an advisory position in his campaign?

There are only two logical reasons why Obama did not leave his church, and even went so far as to place a radical such as Wright on his campaign. The first is that he does agree with him and the second is that he needs the radical vote to beat Hillary in the primaries.

The first reason makes Obama a closet radical, and the second reason makes him a liar. Oh what tangled when first we practice to deceive! Obama had a lot going for him, and he may have just put his campaign in a precarious position.
